Lehi leaves Jerusalem

Lehi was a prophet in Jerusalem. He was sad because the people in Jerusalem were being wicked. One day he went into his tent and prayed for the people in Jerusalem because he was worried about them. Lehi then saw fire on a rock and God talked to Lehi from the fire. He told Lehi that Jerusalem would be destroyed and that the people would be taken into Babylon unless they learned to love God. (Explain that the people would not want to go to Babylon because they were going to be slaves).
Lehi told the people to love God and do good things for Him. The people didn't listen to Lehi. They tried to kill Lehi. So God told Lehi and his family to leave Jerusalem, where they followed close to the Red Sea.

Lehi had a wife named Sariah and four sons. Two of his sons weren't very nice (Laman and Lemuel) and two were good (Sam and Nephi).
We collected rocks outside and talked about fire coming out of the rock so God could talk to Lehi. After we were done with the rocks, we made a matching game.

We went on a nature walk to find leaves for our crayon imprint craft.

James painted the Red Sea!

We have a workbook I traced out of to get these pics. I will work on sending the pics below via email for you to copy off.
To demonstrate the taking over of Jerusalem, we built two cities out of play-doh (could use blocks too). I picked up 'my' Babylon, walked it over to Jerusalem, smashed it and walked it back to where Babylon was first. The kids liked doing this.
Another thing that was suggested to do was gather sticks and other things from nature to make a "nature collage". We didn't do it mainly because I didn't want to deal with the mess :)
After we talked about everything, we had RED SEA SNACKS. Pretty much anything RED would work for a snack! While the story doesn't flow out of James' mouth quite yet..he remembers more parts of the story each time I bring it up...little by litte right?
The only other thing we did was play a question game to help remember. I decided that I would do only one lesson a week so we could continually talk about it throughout the 7 days. Most of the stories will probably build on each other so this will be pretty helpful :)
How did God talk to Lehi? a camel, a rock or an angel
What were Lehis sons names?
What was the name of the sea we colored?
What is the wilderness like?
Do you think Lehi was scared when God talked to Him?
What would you do if God talked to you?
